As a Church of England Junior School, Religious Education is of central importance to us. We follow the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus, but this is enhanced by additional units which explore the major festivals of the Church’s year.
Christianity forms the core of our curriculum, but we also study Islam and Hinduism in greater depth. Visits to places of worship each year enable children to meet believers from a wide variety of religions and find out more about the communities to which they belong. We welcome speakers into school who talk to children about their faith, and have close links with our parish church of All Saints’.
Our teaching encourages children to explore big questions, to understand the impact of faith on the lifestyles of believers and discover how people of faith would express their faith and explain their ideas. We respect the distinctiveness of these traditions as well as looking for common areas of belief. Our syllabus is designed to help children to understand and engage with the central religious tradition of our country as well as promote tolerance and respect for those of all faiths or none.
