Moving In and Moving on
As part of our ongoing links and recent federation with All Saints' CE Infant School, we are always seeking to develop ever improved transition of our pupils between Years 2 and 3.
From the summer term in 2015, we introduced a longer lead in period for pupils to move, not only between the infants and juniors, but between year groups within the juniors as well. Pupils had several separate taster sessions with their new teacher in preparation for moving up in September. This was very successful in helping the children become more familiar and more secure in making the transition to the next key stage or year in their education. As a result, they settled into their new classes very quickly.
Transition from year 6 to our local secondary settings (including Highfields and Lady Manners schools) has also been very successful. We host Highfields School in presenting to Year 6 parents each year in the Autumn term and have close links between the year 6 and year 7 staff in facilitating as smooth a transfer as possible for our pupils. Several opportunities are timetabled in the summer term for our year 6 pupils and their parents to visit and experience life at secondary school prior to making the transition in September.
